About Rikai

What it is, and who it is for

Rikai is a live USMLE question bank for people preparing for the exam. One subscription covers every question bank, tutor, timed and exam modes, a written explanation for every answer, notes, bookmarks, and progress across devices. Create a free account with Google and try a question.

Rikai is Japanese for understanding. It is a study tool, not medical advice and not a guarantee of an examination result. You need a Google account, and you must be 18 or older to create one.

It is live

The site at getrikai.app is the product. Create a free account, try a question, and subscribe when you want the full library. One subscription opens every published bank. Tutor mode shows the explanation when you answer. Timed mode holds it until the block ends. Exam mode runs on a screen that behaves like the test. Notes, bookmarks, and progress stay with the account across devices.

Paddle is the merchant of record. Plans are listed on pricing. The banks themselves are listed on the library page.

Who builds it

Duff Corben, founder of Rikai, builds it. Write to duff.corben@getrikai.app. There is no phone line and no live chat.

What is next

Rikai is an AI-native study product. AI-powered features are coming soon. None of them are live today.

The question banks and written explanations that are live today do not depend on those features.

  • Coming soon: AI explanations. A planned AI walkthrough of why the right answer is right and why the others are wrong, beside the written explanation already on every question.
  • Coming soon: AI tutor. A planned way to ask an AI tutor about the question you are studying, without leaving the block.
  • Coming soon: AI study guidance. A planned suggestion of what to review next, drawn from the questions you missed, marked, or skipped.

How the live product is run

Sign-in is Google, through WorkOS. Study data is stored in Convex. Question-bank releases are delivered from Cloudflare R2. The site is hosted on Vercel. Transactional email is sent with Resend. Error monitoring uses Sentry. Paddle handles payment.
